Obituary

Joseph Costanzo Colantonio
Joseph Costanzo Colantonio, born in Montorio Nei Frentani (Molise, Italy) was called by God peacefully on June 26, 2020 at the age of 83. He is now reunited in heaven with his loving wife Pia. Cherished by his dear children, Connie (Moreno Morelli), Nadia (Anthony Morielli), Lino (Mirella) and Daniel (Renata). Proud Nonno to Mikayla, Emily, Matthew, Amanda, Alicia, Sara, Lucas, Andrew and James. Dearly missed by his siblings Antonio (Rosetta), Mario (Giovanna) and Lina (late Costanzo Di Iorio). He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-law Maria Rosa (Joe Cattana), and Rina (late Gianni Manarin) and brother-in-law Renzo Tanel (Sophie).
Joseph Costanzo was a devout Catholic with an immeasurable love and dedication for music, writing, and uniting his Italian community. He combined these passions together to direct multiple choirs, coordinate numerous associations and publish countless magazines and articles. With this gift and admiration for his birthplace he created the news magazine, Il Ponte, publishing 70 editions over the course of 35 years, maintaining a global connection for his hometown Montoriese community.
Joseph Costanzo surrounded himself with wonderful friends and together with his wife Pia, enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be held dear in the hearts of his family, relatives, and friends. Visitations will take place at the Vescio Funeral Home Woodbridge Chapel (8101 Weston Rd. 905-850-3332) on Thursday July 2, 2020 from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday July 3, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church (150 St. Francis Ave., north of Rutherford Rd.). Private family entombment to follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery (on Hwy 27, South of Hwy 7). A memorial Mass in his honor will be planned in the future for those not able to attend the funeral services due to the Covid-19 restrictions. If so desired, donations in memory of Joseph Costanzo may be made to the Sunnybrook Hospital, Odette Cancer Centre. Online Condolences at: www.vesciofuneralhome.com

The Funeral Mass will be live-streamed; please connect 10 minutes before mass using the link provided by St. Clare of Assisi Church: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiZD1nl84PH1nI4rFkfGcwA

The government has implemented that all attendees at funerals must always wear a mask.

Masks are required at all churches and cemeteries. Those in attendance for services are required to bring their masks to the church and cemetery or you will not be permitted to attend the service.

As some of the restrictions are being lifted the Bereavement Authority of Ontario has posted their guidelines of what we are able to do. https://thebao.ca/bao_attendanceguidance_june15_2020/

We can have public visitations with a maximum of 50 people in attendance per visitation room

We can have funerals taking place at the church which allows for up to 100 to 150 people to be in attendance in the Vaughan area (once maximum capacity has been reached no exceptions will be made to allow for more friends to enter)

We can have from 10 people up to 50 people if outdoors in attendance at the cemetery.

We are encouraging all friends to come to the funeral home during the visitation periods if you are comfortable and meet us at the church for the funeral Mass.

We are asking for only the most immediate family members to join us at the funeral home on the funeral day and at the cemetery only.

We encourage all family and friends to leave a message on the memory wall online.
We continue to pray for all families affected during this most difficult time.

My Godfather was a tremendous role model, a silent force with many ambitions and numerous achievements. His devotion to his wife, family, culture and birthplace Montorio Nei Frentani was nothing short of admirable. His great soul served everyone and the Lord and as Maya Angelou said," Great souls never die, they bring us together again and again". I will miss our occasional candid chats but I am grateful for the lessons and presence in my life. My heart and thoughts are with the Colantonio family and his friends. Riposa in pace. xx
